The case

Leona Marsh, 38, was the night manager at the Bellwether Hotel. At about 2 a.m., she was found at the bottom of the east service stairwell, with a damp landing above her and the lights off. The official finding was a workplace accident: wet stairs, tired employee, bad luck. Her phone was bagged with her belongings but never searched. It contains her shift messages, hotel access logs, photos, and the audit she was trying to finish before she died.
